The violent line in Iran revers Imam Khamenei

By: Rasul Moatamedi

Majles: a stable of diverse animals? Discussions divide the parliamentaries in Iran while the system prepares for the parliamentary elections.

Hossein Fadayi

He is the top selling line of Iran’s regime: Mahmoud Ahmadinedjad. Although Mr. Ahmadinejad has little control on politics inside the country he is the best known Iranian abroad and not few people in both parts of the world find him a brave hero in the face of hegemonical powers. Ahmadinedjad is thus precious to the system as some people outside the country still feel their illusions nourished about the true nature of the system and about a distorted every-day reality in Iran. There are some Iranians abroad who feed these impressions by focussing on a superficial description of daily life in rich areas. They might be those who profit from the regimes existance.

Inside the political elite in the Islamic Republic Iran the rift is considerable, although the last elections had been rigged to ensure Ali Khamenei allies who would blindly follow his line. Bit by bit it became obvious that Ahmadinejad seemed to follow an own agenda based on his bosom friend Rahim Mashaie. Several of Ahmadinejads associates have been put into prison since with accusations of fraud, sorcery or other accusations.
After Khamenei’s order to certain Pasdaran and Bassidji to do the attack against the British embassy one month ago members of the Majles still discuss about the benefit or the danger that arose for the system. One parliamentary was injured in a brawl inside the Majles when words didn’t reach far enough in a fervid discussion on the bank fraud that was revealed two months ago. Another parliamentary felt himself like in a stable.

The upcoming parliamentary elections
Maybe the results of the upcoming parliamentary elections on 2nd of March 2012 will bring some more unity inside the parliament. Khamenei’s ardent followers of Ammariyoun would like to considerably increase the number of their friends inside the Majles. And they oppose Ahmadinejads line, which they call the deviant line. So what will happen if Khamenei’s commission with Hadad-Adel and Djannati on top will prepare the list of people who will be favoured to enter Majles and no matter how the real results will come these people will be announced as the winners of peoples votes? Somehow it reminds us of the rigged presidential elections of 2009 when Khamenei only wanted Ahmadinejad and that’s what he got. History might see one day the time when people and documents will prove the real dimension of the fraud. Why vote? A popular vote is the legitimation for the regime by the population to be able to claim to have an Islamic democratic system. Unfortunately the term Islamic in this case is being used as a term which stresses on a divine legitimacy and only masks despotism.
The importance of the elections at this time for the regime is to receive a legitimation by the people in Iran to show the world that their system is backed by the population. Therefor they have to solve two problems: mobilize as many as possible to give their votes and in the same time limit as far as possible those who can be elected. Two months ago Khamenei gave the message that it might be possible to change the constitution and let the president be elected by the parliament. That means who will have strong forces inside the parliament will decide for the president. It is another step towards political ‘Gleichschaltung’ (alignment).

Hardliner Research on the presidential elections
These days another incident inside the Majles indicated the rift. Ultra Hardline Members of the Parliament are known for their vitriolic remarks and their caustic attacks. They are linked to Kayhan newspaper or Jaham News Website and to Ammaryioun, a group that acts in the continuation of theories of Ahmad Fardid, Abbas Mo’aref and Mesbah Yazdi, the living philosopher of violence.
Some of these Hardliners are Parviz Sorouri (Mr. “We-will-make-the-world-insecure.”), Alireza Zakani (Jahan News owner), Ismael Khowsari (deputy chairman of Iran’s parliamentary committee of national interest and foreign policy), Hamid Rasai and Hossein Fadayi (general secretary of Isargarane Enghelab of the Islamic Republic = The ones who sacrifice themselves for the Revolution).
Mr. Fadayi was proud to present a report concerning the security of the country based on a 2,5 years research. The report was all about “how the ground was prepared for the 2009 elections to confront the system”. Some of the main claims that were made in this report relate to former president Mohammad Khatami and his protégé Mir Hossein Mousavi who are accused to have followed an agenda of the British to bring about change in the country. Persons like Mehdi Karoubi and weighty Rafsandjani were not even mentioned. One allusion to others who are not mentioned in the report might be derived from this sentence though: “in the end of the elections many forces got involved”.

Khatami, trustful to the system – open to the West
Khatami is shown as the preparator of the way of Mousavi. His travels to Turkey, Saudi Arabia and other countries cooperating with the US should win support for Mousavi because he would bring Iran towards the West. Some helping hands in this agenda are mentioned, Mehdi Hashemi, Ramin Jahanbegloo, Mohsen Sazgara, Merhangiz Kar, BBC Persian, Voice of America, Radio Zamaneh, the financial help from funds granted by the US congress, the Baha’i. All these groups are accused to have led sabotage against the IRI. Inside the country a part of intelligence forces provided some logistics, one of the persons involved in this is described as Amir Ardeshir Arjomand. Fadayi mentions that in the aftermath of the presidential elections some people would like to create a new left wing in Iran, he might have meant Ahmadinedjad.
Ammariyoun members are known to be loyal not only to the system but that they propagate the sanctity of the Supreme Leader and use the name Imam for him. Anyone who doesn’t apply this is regarded by them as illoyal and adversary of the system.
In response to the presentation of the report Ali Motahari, a conservative Member of the Majles was quoted as saying: “We don’t accept the report of Ahmed Shaheed, how could we accept this one? It is only the work of a group and not of the opinion of the Parliament!”

Khamenei meets the envoys to foreign countries in Teheran
Following the rigged presidential elections some of the ambassadors jumped off the boat because they could not believe in the system anymore. Khamenei needs ambassadors who firmly believe in the system and are ready to back it including their families. On Wednesday, 28th of December he met the envoys and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Akbar Salehi and delivered a speech focussing on 3 points.
 1.    He acknowledged that the revoutionary movements around the world are inspired by the wish for change and assumed no longer that they are based on the Islamic revolution

 2.    He accepted that in Iran there are a multitude of problems, which he was sure to solve, although foreign countries try to blow the problems up

 3.    He appealed to the ambassadors to rest fidel to the system as it is the best of systems where the popular votes are brought together with the divine guidance.
Khamenei needs some more top selling lines for his regime, Ahmadinejads star becomes feeble.
